It's me Marge, the Cape Buffalo...just kidding, it's actually your VBS Director Ms. Marge. Do you remember Marge the Buffalo though from last summer's ROAR! VBS? Your crew leaders and station leaders and I had such a good time with you at St. Mark last summer. Do you need a reminder? Go to stmarkalaska.com/childrens-ministry and you can see our ROAR! slideshow and find pictures of yourself and your crew. Do you remember that we learned that When Life is Wild GOD IS GOOD?
Well, life is certainly wild this year isn't it? We've all had to learn new words and phrases like COVID19, coronavirus, social distancing, and uncertain times. And we couldn't GO to school, we had to DO school at HOME, and some of the parents even worked at home. We have had to worship God at home online too instead of going to our St. Mark building. And, you guessed it, we can't be together at the church for our big VBS gathering week either. So Life is Wild, but GOD IS GOOD!
Ms. May, and Pastor Carol, and Vicar Mel thought we'd save the new VBS theme for next summer when we can hopefully be all together again. This summer, watch for ROAR Revisits to come to you at home. You'll get activity kits once a month for you and your family to Revisit ROAR! to remember that When Life is Wild, God is Good, and give you some fun things to do this summer.
God is Good,
Loving & welcoming our children, we will teach them to be like Jesus as they grow in faith and live their lives to God’s glory.
Chlidren in Worship
All children and youth at St. Mark are invited to participate in worship every week. Bringing children to worship may not always be easy, but it is an essential part of their growth in Christ. As we worship with children and they worship with us, we live out the belief that we are a community of faith together. We embody the belief that we are all children of God and have gifts to bring to God in worship. Children are trained and encouraged to serve as acolytes, readers, musicians, ushers and communion assistants for worship.
By including them in worship, children
•Discover they belong to the body of Christ and are partners in the faith journey.
•Build a fund of memorable shared experiences.
•Hear stories from the Bible read and interpreted and see worship is one place where God speaks to all.
•Witness the drama of Baptism and share Holy Communion as experiences of God's covenant with us and our promises to God.
Quality Nursery Care
We realize that some young children (3 and under) may need to leave worship early or may need child care throughout the worship hour. St. Mark's nursery provides quality care staffed by trained, experienced providers under the direction of Tanya Greenway. We offer a cheerful play area stocked with age-appropriate toys and activities along with nurture in the Christian faith using the Frolic curriculum which introduces our littlest ones to the love of God in Jesus Christ. We also provide a simple, healthy snack. Parents must sign their children in and out.
Following the Pastor's Chat early in the service children ages 3-10 are welcome to attend Children's Church where an age-appropriate lesson and activity is led by capable and caring adult and youth volunteers. We use Spark Rotation Curriculum which presents a singular Bible story or theme over several weeks through various mediums such as Art, Drama, Science, Cooking, Video, Games, etc. On the first Sunday of each month families attend worship together so that children learn how to worship. An all-age hands-on activity such as a service project is presented on any 5th Sunday in a month. If you are an adult or teen who would like to assist with Children's Church please contact Coordinator, May Ramirez-Xiong at (907)717-8567 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
